The municipality of Lanuza is a small town whose economy is centered not on commercial establishment but on agricultural production. There are only small-scale enterprises present in the poblacion and in the surrounding areas of Zones I to Zone IV. The usual establishments are the mini-school supplies stores situated near the schools and beside the church. The dominant sector are the sari-sari stores scattered within the entire municipality.
The municipality has no shopping malls, department stores, hotels, theaters, and other entertainment facilities. Banks, insurance companies and real estate service, whether recreational, business or personal are also not present in the municipality of Lanuza. Thus, Lanuzanhons depend primarily on agriculture and fishing as means of livelihood.
Nonetheless, there is one existing industrial establishment known as the Agsam Craft located at Barangay Nurcia. The local folks of Nurcia engage into this kind of business because its forest bountifully provides the needed materials for the manufacturing of the product. It consists of a variety of styles such as bags, necklaces, bracelets and other accessories that are designed artistically by the people and developed by other line agencies.
The presence of other manufacturing establishments such as hollow blocks and repair shops are also evident. There are also rice and corn mills situated at barangay Zone-I, Agsam and Bocawe. The Silop Spring provides mineral water whose quality is superior and viable. The municipality is good site for industrial establishments due to the ethical working attitude of its people and the place abounds with resources and raw materials.
Despite being an agricultural town, Lanuza still has a vast opportunity for industrial development. The existence of Agsam Craft is a ray of hope for all Lanuzanhons to reach out to its neighbors and to the world. |
